05 Feb MAR Winter Meetings in Review
MAR Winter Meetings Recap
At the MAR Winter Meetings, volunteer leadership and committee members discussed a wide variety of issues concerning Mississippi REALTORS®, including such things as the need and context for updated MAR standard forms; the professional standards enforcement process; association operations; the engagement by REALTORS® in our advocacy efforts; the LeadershipMAR program and growing our Young Professionals Network (YPN). Committee meeting minutes will be posted to the member-protected section of MSrealtors.org later this month.
MARPAC Drawdown and Lip Sync Throwdown
The MARPAC Drawdown event following the Winter Meetings was a runaway success. We changed the venue to The South on East Silas Brown Street in downtown Jackson. We also introduced a new competition–the Lip Sync Throwdown–and the Northwest Mississippi Association of REALTORS® Village Peeps got the crowd going with their performance of “YMCA.” Mississippi REALTORS® raised almost $75,000 for MARPAC, and the following lucky winners split the Drawdown grand prize of $5,000–Ernie Clark, Bethany Culley, Ellen Short, Gena Nolan, and Cynthia Joachim.
General Membership Meeting
On Thursday, February 1, the Mississippi REALTORS® held its General Membership Meeting where NAR REALTOR® Party Member Involvement Liaison Julie Minto from Mobile, Alabama, stressed the importance of RPAC and celebrated Mississippi REALTORS®’ RPAC participation rate and response to NAR’s tax reform Calls to Action (CFAs), among other achievements. Philip Gunn, Speaker of the Mississippi House of Representatives, extolled the benefits of the First-Time Home Buyer Savings Account legislation that was passed last year. Speaker Gunn also shared legislative challenges facing Mississippians and that are pertinent to Mississippi REALTORS®.
